Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Map Pack Tracker.

What is a map pack grid scan?
A grid scan checks your Google Maps ranking at multiple locations spread across your service area. Instead of checking your rank from one spot, we check it from a grid of 9 to 81 points — showing you exactly where you're visible and where you're not.
How accurate are the rankings?
Very accurate. We query Google Maps search results via DataForSEO's API at each grid coordinate with a 15-zoom level precision. The results match what a person searching Google Maps from that location would see.
What grid size should I choose?
For most businesses, a 5x5 or 7x7 grid gives great coverage. A 3x3 (9 points) gives a quick overview, while 9x9 (81 points) provides the most detailed picture. Larger grids are best for businesses with wide service areas or agencies tracking multiple locations.
Why can't it find my business?
Make sure you enter your business name exactly as it appears on Google Maps. We match by name — if your listing says "Joe's Plumbing LLC" but you type "Joes Plumbing", it may not match. A gray marker means your business wasn't in the top 20 results at that location.
How is this different from checking my rank manually?
When you search Google Maps, you only see results from your current location. But customers search from all over your service area. A grid scan shows how your ranking changes across different locations — you might rank #1 near your office but #15 three miles away.
What does the free scan include?
The free scan gives you 1 scan at a 3x3 grid (9 points) with a 2 km radius. This is enough to see the concept in action. Paid scans unlock larger grids (up to 9x9 with 81 points) and wider radius coverage (up to 25 km).
